Jarrod Bowen will be available for a bargain £15million next summer if West Ham United fail to secure an immediate return to the Premier League, according to talkSPORT. The 29-year-old winger, who committed his immediate future to the Hammers last month, has a relegation-triggered release clause that could reignite Aston Villa's long-standing interest.
Villa's Long-Standing Admiration
Aston Villa were among several Premier League clubs tracking Bowen during the summer transfer window, with manager Unai Emery known to be a big admirer of the England international. However, West Ham's captain confirmed he would stay at the London Stadium to lead the club's promotion charge after their 14-year top-flight tenure ended in May.
According to talkSPORT, Bowen's current contract includes lucrative bonuses for firing the Hammers back to the Premier League at the first attempt, alongside the budget escape route. The report also claims that his previous release clause as a Premier League player was significantly higher than the £15million figure now in place.
Bowen's Commitment to West Ham
Speaking last month, Bowen explained his decision to stay, saying: "There's a lot of thinking time over the summer and a lot of things that go in your head. For me I look in years and years to come of when I retire… what's going to bring me the most happiness? It was a no-brainer. The main motivation is staying and bringing this club back into the Premier League, where we belong."
The winger, who has scored 85 goals in 280 appearances since joining from Hull City in 2020, added: "The ambition I got from them, certainly in terms of the direction that the club wants to move in, interested me a lot. It didn't take a lot because this club means a lot to me. I've been here six and a half years and transitioned a boy really from the Championship to the captain of the club, which is a huge honour."
Fan Support and Promotion Pressure
Bowen acknowledged the unique support West Ham will receive in the Championship, noting: "50,000 season ticket holders in the Championship is some feat. It goes to show you that loyalty and love they have for the club, and they want to see it back in the Premier League. We need everybody to be part of that. There's going to be a different pressure, but the most important thing is desire and attitude and a winning mentality."
West Ham begin their 2026/27 campaign on Saturday with a first-round League Cup tie against Portsmouth at the London Stadium. The club will be hoping Bowen's goals and leadership can secure an immediate return to the top flight, avoiding the risk of losing their captain for a cut-price fee next summer.
