Key figures at Juventus are reportedly divided over the future of Douglas Luiz, as the Brazilian midfielder's loan spell at Aston Villa draws to a close. The 28-year-old returned to Villa Park in January from Juventus, with an option for Villa to make the move permanent this summer for €25 million. However, Luiz has failed to replicate the form of his first stint at the club, casting doubt on a permanent switch.
Aston Villa manager Unai Emery acknowledged that no final decision has been made on Luiz or fellow loanee Jadon Sancho. Speaking ahead of Villa's final Premier League match against Manchester City, Emery stated: "Not yet. Now we are finishing the season. We will reflect and analyse each situation. We will decide it, but not yet." He added: "I am so, so proud of every player and how they have responded. Now is the moment after Sunday to take decisions how we will continue building and getting our development strongly."
Juventus Split on Luiz's Return
According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Luiz's expected return to Turin is causing a rift between Juventus general manager Damien Comolli and manager Luciano Spalletti. Comolli views Luiz as an "additional hassle" and is keen to sell him this summer, while Spalletti sees the situation as a potential "opportunity" for the midfielder to earn a second chance at the club.
Luiz's loan deal included an option to buy, but his performances have not convinced Villa to trigger the clause. As a result, a return to Italy appears likely, though Emery has left the door open for further evaluation. The final decision will be made after the season ends, with Villa aiming to strengthen their squad for the upcoming campaign.
