Monty Don's Leominster Home and Garden

Monty Don, the longtime host of BBC Gardeners' World, resides near the market town of Leominster in Herefordshire, approximately 90 minutes from Birmingham. His property, Longmeadow, is the iconic filming location for the show. According to Rightmove, the average house price in Leominster over the past year stands at £237,089.

Don acquired the two-acre plot in 1991 when it was an empty field. With limited funds but ample time, he spent the following spring and summer cutting grass and clearing debris, all while planning and dreaming. Today, Longmeadow is a magnificently designed, wildlife-friendly sanctuary with seasonal planting, verdant borders, and carefully considered plots.

Why Leominster?

In an interview with English Home, Don explained his choice: "I live near a little town called Leominster in Herefordshire near the Welsh border." He noted that the area was "sufficiently far" from the London commuter belt, making it more affordable. His home is a Tudor oak-beamed hall house with 10 workrooms and studios.

The garden is divided into four areas: the Cottage Garden, Jewel Garden, Paradise Garden, and Vegetable Garden. On his blog, Don wrote: "The planting began in earnest in spring '93 and has never really ceased since. The changes have been dramatic and may seem astonishing to some. But in my mind that early field with its pattern of woven fences protecting the little plants, so small yet filled with dreams, still remains beneath the skin, is still there beneath all the years."

Leominster: A Historic Market Town

Leominster is located in northern Herefordshire, just 10 minutes from Hereford town centre, which offers shops, restaurants, and bars. The town is believed to have been founded around a great Anglo-Saxon abbey established in 660 AD. It serves as an ideal base for exploring both England and Wales, attracting visitors with its historical landmarks, charming streets, and beautiful gardens.

While images of Don's property remain relatively private, his garden has been featured on Gardeners' World for many years, giving audiences regular glimpses of its various sections, including the plants and vegetables he cultivates.
