Aston Villa are reportedly unwilling to sell goalkeeper Emi Martinez for less than €10 million this summer, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport. Juventus have identified the Argentina international as their top target after Liverpool blocked Alisson's exit, but the Italian club has so far been unwilling to meet Villa's asking price.
Personal Terms Agreed
Martinez is currently representing Argentina at the World Cup, but that has not prevented Juventus from negotiating with his representatives. The two parties have reportedly reached an agreement in principle over a three-year contract worth €5 million per season, plus bonuses. This proposed deal would represent a pay cut for Martinez, who currently earns €7 million per year at Aston Villa.
Club-to-Club Negotiations Stalled
While personal terms are close to being finalised, no agreement has been reached between the clubs. Juventus have so far refused to match Villa's €10 million asking price. Martinez remains under contract at Villa until 2029 and has established himself as one of Europe's top goalkeepers in recent seasons.
Age and Salary Considerations
Martinez will turn 34 in September and commands a significant salary. Combined with even a modest transfer fee, this makes him an expensive signing for Juventus. The Italian club finished sixth in Serie A last season and missed out on Champions League qualification, and they will aim to replicate Villa's achievement by winning the Europa League in the upcoming campaign.
