Aldi's £40m London Expansion: 8 New Stores, 200 Jobs

Aldi Announces Major £40 Million Expansion Across London

The discount supermarket giant Aldi has unveiled ambitious plans to open eight new stores across London and its surrounding regions as part of a substantial £40 million investment drive. This strategic expansion is specifically aimed at enhancing the accessibility of lower-cost groceries for households throughout the capital, addressing significant gaps in affordable food availability.

New Locations and Job Creation

The retailer will establish new branches in key areas including Marble Arch, Hoxton, and Stepney Green, alongside other sites across Greater London. This initiative is expected to generate approximately 200 new employment opportunities across the city, reinforcing Aldi's ongoing commitment to investing in its UK store network.

Jonathan Neale, managing director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, emphasized the importance of this move, stating, "We recognize that household budgets remain under considerable pressure, and many Londoners currently lack convenient access to an Aldi store. These new locations will deliver our unparalleled value to a broader range of families across the capital."

Refurbishments and Wider Investment Strategy

In addition to the new openings, existing Aldi branches in Enfield and Kilburn are scheduled for refurbishment in 2026 as part of this comprehensive investment programme. The £40 million expansion specifically targets parts of London where consumers have traditionally relied on higher-priced convenience stores or full-price supermarkets for their weekly shopping needs.

This London-focused project is a component of a broader UK investment plan, with Aldi set to allocate over £370 million towards new store developments nationwide this year. Last year, the retailer successfully opened several locations within the M25, including Wimbledon, Fulham Broadway, Shoreditch, Caterham, Uxbridge, Old Kent Road, and Kentish Town, while also extending its Colindale store.

Aldi's Commitment to Affordability

Alongside its aggressive expansion efforts, Aldi continues to underscore its dedication to competitive pricing. The supermarket has been recognized as the cheapest supermarket by Which? for five consecutive years, based on monthly comparisons of 89 popular branded and own-label products. It also maintained the top position in the consumer group's rankings during the first three months of 2026.
