Aldi has declared its most successful festive trading period on record, with sales surging to £1.65 billion in the crucial four weeks leading up to Christmas Eve.
Value Drives Festive Spending
The German discounter, now the UK's fourth-largest supermarket, reported that sales were 3% higher than the same period in 2024. The company stated that price was the paramount concern for British households in 2025, with customers determined to celebrate without overspending. In response, Aldi invested £325 million to lower prices throughout the year, including a pledge to beat competitors on the cost of a traditional Christmas dinner.
The week before Christmas was particularly strong, with total sales jumping by over 5% as shoppers spent approximately £500 million in its stores. 22nd December stood out as the single busiest trading day, as millions rushed to buy last-minute festive items. Over the four-week period, Aldi's colleagues processed a staggering 57 million transactions, a new record for the retailer.
Premium Treats and British Produce in Demand
Despite the focus on value, customers were still keen to indulge. Sales of Aldi's Specially Selected premium own-label range grew by over 12%, indicating a trend for affordable luxury. Popular festive lines included award-winning products like The Ultimate Wagyu Fat Roast Potatoes, Double Wrapped Pigs in Blankets, and White Chocolate Ganache Pinecones.
Shoppers also toasted the season with plenty of fizz, with Aldi selling over 5.5 million bottles of sparkling wine, equivalent to 33 million glasses. There was also a significant push to support home-grown suppliers, leading to a major uplift in sales of British meat and vegetables.
As a direct result, customers purchased 56 million potatoes, 37 million carrots, and half a million turkeys, all sourced from the supermarket's network of British farming partners.
CEO's Pledge for 2026
Giles Hurley, Chief Executive Officer of Aldi UK and Ireland, commented on the results. "This Christmas proved once again that a great quality Christmas can still be affordable," he said. "We delivered a Christmas without compromise, offering customers award-winning British products at unbeatable prices."
Hurley thanked customers for their trust and praised the efforts of Aldi staff. Looking ahead, he confirmed the retailer's ongoing mission: "As we move into 2026, our focus remains unchanged - keeping prices low and quality high, so that every household in Britain can enjoy amazing food all year round."
