Young Voices Concert Cancelled as 15cm Snow Warning Hits Birmingham
Birmingham concert axed due to heavy snow forecast

A major children's concert in Birmingham has been called off due to a severe snow warning set to blanket the region with up to 15 centimetres of snow.

Event Postponed Amid Severe Weather Alert

The Young Voices concert, scheduled for Thursday evening, 8 January 2026, at the BP Pulse Live Arena within the NEC complex, will not go ahead as planned. Organisers made the pre-emptive decision based on a stark forecast from the Met Office.

An amber weather alert has been issued for Birmingham and the wider West Midlands. The warning is active from 8pm on Thursday, 8 January, until 9am on Friday, 9 January. Forecasters predict between 10 to 15 cm (four to six inches) of snow could accumulate during this period, creating potentially hazardous travel conditions.

Safety of Children and Families 'Comes First'

In a statement, the event organisers emphasised that the welfare of attendees was the paramount concern. "The safety of children, teachers and families always comes first," the statement read, confirming this was "the responsible decision" based on the available information.

The statement acknowledged the disappointment felt by the thousands of young performers and their families but was firm in its stance: "We know how disappointing this is, but safety must always come before everything else."

Next Steps for Ticket Holders and Schools

All schools involved in the large-scale choir event have been contacted directly via email. Organisers are now working to secure an alternative date for the rescheduled performance.

They have confirmed the following for all participants and audience members:

  • All choir places will be held for the new date.
  • Existing audience tickets will remain valid.
  • Any pre-booked parking will be automatically moved to the new event date.

Further information will be communicated to schools and individual ticket holders once the new date is finalised. The concert is part of the Young Voices series, which is recognised as the largest children's choir concert organisation in the world.

The postponement highlights the significant disruption expected across the West Midlands as Storm Goretti approaches, with authorities urging the public to prepare for difficult travel and to follow the latest weather updates.
