Asda Launches New £5 Premium Meal Deal Across UK Stores

Supermarket giant Asda has launched a new premium-style meal deal across its stores this week, with shoppers able to pick up a main, snack and drink for £5. The retailer said the 'Exceptional' range is now available nationwide, including in its convenience-format Asda Express stores and features 17 upgraded main options. These include a Prosciutto Cotto and Milano Salami focaccia, Steak and Onion Chutney sandwich, Beef Birria wrap and a selection of hand-finished sushi rolls.

Asda Undercuts Rivals with £5 Meal Deal

Asda claims the new deal undercuts rival supermarket offers, with competitors such as Tesco charging £5.50 with a Clubcard or £6 without. Similar meal deals at Sainsbury's and Co-op are also priced at £5.50, rising to £6 for non-members at Co-op. The range also includes items such as Chicken Parmigiana sandwiches, New York deli-style sandwiches and products from YO! Sushi.

Potential Savings for Regular Shoppers

Money-saving blogger Alasdair Baker, who operates The Penny Pincher blog, said the lower price point could lead to significant savings over time for regular shoppers. He wrote: “You're saving 50p to £1 compared to equivalent premium deals elsewhere. That might not sound massive, but it adds up if you're buying lunch regularly. Over a working month, that's £10 to £20 back in your pocket.”

According to his estimates, shoppers buying lunch several times a week could save between £120 and £240 over the course of a year by opting for the cheaper deal instead of rival supermarket offers. Alasdair also pointed out several menu items he considers particularly good value, reports Neil Shaw from Devon Live.

Highlighted Menu Items

Among his highlights were the Chicken Caesar Shake-A-Salad, which he pointed out is cheaper as part of the meal deal than similar standalone salads at rival retailers. He also flagged the Beef Birria Wrap with dipping sauce, as well as the deli-style focaccia sandwiches and sushi options.

Asda's Commitment to Value

Asda said the launch forms part of a wider effort to improve value for customers as households continue to face rising food costs. The new meal deal is available now in all Asda stores and Asda Express locations across the UK.
