Asda Recalls Two Home Products Over Fire Safety Risk
Asda recalls cushions and seat pads over fire risk

Supermarket giant Asda has issued an urgent recall for two popular homeware items after they were found to pose a potential fire risk. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has published recall notices for the affected products, urging customers to stop using them straight away.

Which Products Are Affected?

The recall involves two distinct items from Asda's George Home range. The first is the George Home Square Seat Pads, which were sold in packs of two. The second is the George Home Cushions, described as square cushions available in a variety of colours.

According to the official notices, the seat pads were on sale between 2020 and 2025. The cushions were available to purchase from January 2023 until December 2025.

Why Have They Been Recalled?

The OPSS states that both products present a serious fire hazard. The issue lies with the internal filling, which may not be fire-retardant as required by law.

"The product presents a risk of fire because the filling may not be fire-retardant," the recall notice explains. "This means that if the seat pad comes into contact with a naked flame, the internal filling will catch fire and continue to flame."

Consequently, the items do not meet the requirements of the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988, a key piece of consumer safety legislation.

What Should Customers Do?

The safety body has confirmed that the products have been recalled from end users. They advise all customers who have purchased these items to take immediate action.

Consumers should stop using the product immediately and return it to their nearest Asda store for a full refund. No receipt is required for the return.

Asda has apologised for any inconvenience caused. Customers seeking further information are advised to contact Asda Customer Relations directly on 0330 053 0111.

This recall serves as a critical reminder for consumers to regularly check official safety notices for products in their homes, ensuring they comply with the latest safety standards.
