Two schools in Wolverhampton are set to be extended to accommodate rising pupil numbers, with the council approving significant funding for the projects. City of Wolverhampton Council confirmed it would be spending more than £2m to create 200 new pupil places across four schools in the city.
The local authority has approved agreements with Amethyst Academies Trust for a combined £1.725m to create 160 new places at Moreton School and Aldersley High School. The trust has now submitted planning applications for both schools, detailing the proposed extensions.
Moreton School extension plans
Amethyst Academies Trust has submitted a planning application for Moreton School, asking for permission to build a single-storey extension that would accommodate three new classrooms, an IT room and a gym. The classroom extension would accommodate an extra 150 pupils, in line with the requirements of the increased admission numbers.
A total of 90 new places would be created at Moreton School in Old Fallings Lane, Bushbury, including an additional year 7 bulge class of 30 places and 30 further places in both years 8 and 9.
Aldersley High School expansion
Plans have also been submitted for Aldersley High School, asking for permission to extend its existing sports hall to make way for a smaller hall, classroom and office. A further 70 places would be created at Aldersley High School in Barnhurst Lane, Codsall, with an additional year 7 bulge class of 30 places and 20 further places in both years 8 and 9.

Extra places would also be created at St Matthias School in Deansfield and Bilston CE Primary School from the start of the new school year in September to accommodate rising demand. These expansions are part of the council's broader strategy to ensure sufficient school capacity across Wolverhampton.
The planning applications for Moreton School and Aldersley High School will now be considered by the council's planning department, with decisions expected in due course. The new places are intended to be available from the start of the next academic year, helping to meet the growing demand for pupil places in the city.
