Bullring owners Hammerson are merging empty stores to create larger retail spaces, sparking excitement about potential new brands coming to Birmingham. The former Dr Martens and Kate Spade units will combine into one big shop, while the Breitling and former Clarks units are also merging.
Breitling Closure and New Tenant
Watch brand Breitling is set to close its doors on the Upper West Mall, leaving two empty shops side by side between H&M and Sky. According to the latest Bullring site plan on Completely Retail, the empty Breitling unit and the former Clarks shop are merging into a single large unit of around 10,745 sq ft. This space is already let, with the tenant to be announced. A Bullring spokesperson confirmed it is a 'new exciting brand' but declined to reveal further details.
More Merged Spaces
The site plan, dated June 6, 2026, also shows that the former Kate Spade and Dr Martens units will be combined into one space of 9,565 sq ft. Dr Martens relocated earlier this year, and the merged unit is now 'under offer'. Other units under offer include the kiosk outside Rolex and the former Lacoste store, while the giant unit under the Rotunda (formerly Zara) is let, with speculation that Stradivarius may be the tenant.
Grand Central Vacancies
In Grand Central, part of Hammerson's Birmingham estate, nine shops are available to let, with the former Pandora store under offer and four others 'in solicitors hands'.
