Birmingham City have confirmed the departure of academy graduate Byron Pendleton, who has joined League Two side Shrewsbury Town for an undisclosed fee. The 21-year-old right-back signed a two-year contract with the Shropshire club, who finished 19th in League Two last season.
Heartfelt Farewell
In a statement on Instagram, Pendleton expressed his gratitude: "I’d like to say a big thank you to Birmingham City and all the staff and players that have helped me progress since I was five years old. I’ve got some wonderful memories and have made some great friends. As I leave for my next chapter, I wish everyone there all the best for the future. It’s been an incredible journey so far, but one I can proudly say was an experience I’ll never forget."
Career Path
Pendleton joined Birmingham City at the age of five and rose through the ranks to captain the under-21 side. He featured in pre-season friendlies for the first team in 2024 but never made a competitive debut. To gain senior experience, he went on loan to National League sides Yeovil Town and Brackley Town last season.
Reunion with Former Manager
The move to Shrewsbury Town reunites Pendleton with manager Gavin Cowan, who previously coached him at Brackley. Cowan has been instrumental in securing the transfer, according to sources close to the club.
Looking Ahead
Pendleton added: "I’m now looking forward to working hard and giving my everything to my next club. Thank you to everyone that has supported me." The transfer marks the end of a 16-year association with Birmingham City, as Pendleton seeks regular first-team football in League Two.
