Costa Coffee Closes Key Bradford Branch in Latest of 21 UK Shutdowns
Costa Coffee closes Bradford branch in string of 21 shutdowns

Costa Coffee has permanently closed a busy branch at a major crossroads in Bradford, marking the latest in a series of over twenty shutdowns across the United Kingdom.

End of an Era at Greengates Crossroads

The outlet on New Line at Greengates crossroads served its final customers on Sunday, December 21. After more than ten years in operation, a sign on the door confirmed the store's permanent closure as of 4pm that day.

The note directed loyal patrons to other nearby Costa branches in Shipley and Guiseley. The closure has sparked disappointment within the local community, particularly concerning job losses.

Community Reaction and Wider Closure Trend

Michael Frazer, secretary of the Greengates and Apperley Bridge Community Group, expressed the community's sadness. "We are sad to see the closure of Costa Coffee because it means local people have lost their jobs," he said, adding hope that staff could be relocated.

He noted the branch's prime location was a regular meeting spot for community volunteers, but also acknowledged the strength of local independent cafes.

This shutdown is not an isolated incident. Costa confirmed the September closure of its franchised store on Seamoor Road in Westbourne, Bournemouth, with most team members redeployed. A spokesperson pointed customers to the Commercial Road store in Bournemouth.
