The discount retailer Poundland has confirmed it will shut the doors of seven more of its UK stores in February 2026, with each location holding a major clearance sale offering discounts of up to 40%.
Restructuring Plan Leads to Nationwide Closures
This latest round of closures is part of a wider restructuring plan initiated after the chain was taken over by an investment firm in June 2025. The original strategy involved closing 68 shops and two warehouses across the country, a move that put approximately 1,300 jobs at risk.
At the start of this process, Poundland operated around 800 stores nationwide. Following the completion of the restructuring, the company expects its estate to be reduced to a total of between 650 and 700 locations.
"Amazing Value" in Final Goodbye Sales
Darren MacDonald, Poundland’s UK country manager, addressed the disappointment of leaving communities but emphasised the company's commitment to offering value until the very end.
"We know how disappointing it is when we leave a store," said MacDonald. "But before we close our doors for a final time, we’re determined to say goodbye by offering even more amazing value to customers."
He added that the special reductions would help the company leave the locations with pride and reminded shoppers they would be welcome at any of the hundreds of other Poundland stores remaining open.
A company spokesperson confirmed the scale of the savings, stating: "The reductions of up to 40% will see items marked down in price until they’re sold and cover all the stock in each store from homewares to groceries and clothing to health and beauty."
