Greggs, the beloved UK bakery chain, is set to expand its footprint in Wolverhampton with the imminent opening of a new branch on Dudley Street. The company has officially confirmed the development, which is expected to welcome customers within the next few weeks.
New Location on Dudley Street
Building work is already underway at 5 Dudley Street, the former site of the Sparkle fashion shop. Hoarding has been erected around the premises, prominently featuring the iconic Greggs logo and distinctive blue brick detailing, signalling the transformation into a new bakery outlet.
A spokesperson for Greggs stated: “Greggs is due to open a new shop in Wolverhampton within the next few weeks. We will be able to share further details with you closer to the opening.” While specific opening dates and operational details remain under wraps, the confirmation has generated excitement among local residents and Greggs enthusiasts.
Expanding Presence in the City Centre
This new addition will join several existing Greggs locations in Wolverhampton, including branches on the same street, as well as within the Mander Centre and the Wulfrun Shopping Centre. The move underscores the chain's commitment to strengthening its presence in key urban areas across the UK.
Greggs operates over 2,600 units nationwide, renowned for its classic sausage rolls, pasties, bakes, and sweet treats. The brand continues to attract a loyal customer base with its affordable and convenient food options.
Recent Growth in the Black Country
The announcement follows the recent opening of a new Greggs branch in Willenhall on December 18, which relocated to a larger unit at Unit 14 The Square. This modernised shop offers an enhanced customer experience while maintaining the same popular product range.
Matt Illingworth, manager of the Willenhall branch, expressed enthusiasm: “We can’t wait to welcome both Greggs fans and new customers to our brand-new shop. We’ve got an amazing range of iconic savouries, Fairtrade hot drinks, hot food and healthier choices available for takeaway, sit-in or Click + Collect.”
Gillian Long, retail operations director for Greggs, added: “We’re excited to be welcoming customers to our new and improved shop in Willenhall. We look forward to providing customers with a modern, convenient new place to experience their Greggs favourites.”
The upcoming Wolverhampton branch represents another step in Greggs' strategic expansion, catering to the growing demand for its products in the West Midlands region. Local residents can anticipate the same quality offerings and service that have made the chain a staple on high streets across the country.
