Lloyds Bank Confirms When Halifax Customers Will Switch to Lloyds App
Lloyds Confirms Halifax Customers Switch Timeline

Lloyds Bank has confirmed that the Halifax brand will be phased out and replaced by Lloyds, with existing Halifax customers set to begin using the Lloyds app in the coming months. Accounts will be rebranded to Lloyds over time, and all Halifax branches will be converted to Lloyds branches by the end of 2027.

Key Changes for Halifax Customers

Halifax will stop opening new accounts as part of the transition. Lloyds, which has branches in Birmingham, stated that the Halifax brand will no longer accept new customers. However, existing Halifax customers will retain their sort codes and account numbers throughout the process.

The bank explained that Halifax branches will be rebranded to Lloyds in 2027, ensuring Lloyds maintains one of the largest branch networks in the UK. In cases where a Halifax branch is close to an existing Lloyds branch, customers will be served by the nearby Lloyds branch instead.

No Changes for Bank of Scotland

Bank of Scotland will remain unaffected by this change. It will continue to offer its existing market-leading experience and propositions exclusively to customers in Scotland.

Integration Since 2009

Lloyds Banking Group, which has owned Halifax and Bank of Scotland since 2009, highlighted that since early 2025, customers of all brands have been able to manage their accounts across any group branch. Customers can already manage all their accounts through a single app or phone call.

According to a Lloyds press release: "Thousands of Halifax customers already manage their accounts through the Lloyds app and colleagues in both Halifax and Lloyds branches already serve customers of both brands."

Branch and Job Guarantees

There are no changes to previously announced plans for branches, and no role reductions are associated with this announcement. Throughout 2027, Halifax branches will either rebrand to Lloyds or, where another branch is nearby, customers will be served by an existing Lloyds branch in the same community.

CEO Statement

Jas Singh, CEO of Consumer Relationships at Lloyds Banking Group, said: "As Halifax changes to Lloyds, our Halifax customers will keep everything they know and love today – the same fantastic app design, the same friendly faces in our branches – even the same sort code and account number. But as Lloyds customers, they’ll get the best innovation and experiences we offer."

Singh added: "Our Lloyds customers are already benefiting from a significant investment into propositions like Club Lloyds, Lloyds Premier, Lloyds Ultra and Lloyds Rewards – and now we’re really excited that Halifax customers can bank on Lloyds for more."
