Lululemon Confirms Bullring Location as Global Sportswear Giant Takes Over Former Arket Unit
In a significant development for Birmingham's retail landscape, global sportswear brand Lululemon has confirmed its move into the Bullring shopping centre. Massive signs have been erected on the hoarding covering the former Arket unit, announcing the forthcoming arrival of this internationally renowned retailer.
From Arket to Lululemon: A Major Retail Transformation
The 13,000 square foot space at Bullring has been vacant since Arket closed its doors in April 2025. Arket, an H&M-owned retailer specialising in fashion, accessories, and footwear, had operated from this two-storey location since 2018. Following its closure, the space briefly hosted a free-to-access exhibition featuring the work of global graffiti documentarian Henry Chalfant, organised by Soul City Arts and Birmingham Hippodrome.
Now, Lululemon is preparing to transform this prime retail location. The brand, celebrated worldwide for its premium gym and fitness apparel, has confirmed its Birmingham presence though an exact opening date remains unspecified, with expectations pointing to the coming weeks.
Strategic Expansion in the UK Market
Lululemon's move represents a strategic expansion of its UK footprint. The brand already maintains numerous branches in London, along with locations in Manchester and an outlet at Bicester Village. The Bullring location places Lululemon at the heart of one of Britain's busiest shopping destinations, directly opposite the newly opened Victoria's Secret store that launched on March 6, 2026.
The signage on the new hoarding boldly proclaims: "Birmingham, you ready? Your new home for performance apparel opens spring 2026." This announcement comes after initial confirmation in late January that Lululemon would be coming to Birmingham, though the specific location had remained undisclosed until now.
Enhancing Birmingham's Retail Offer
This development underscores Birmingham's continued appeal to major international retailers. The Bullring, as a central shopping hub, continues to attract premium brands seeking to establish a presence in the Midlands. Lululemon's arrival follows closely on the heels of Victoria's Secret's grand opening, creating a dynamic retail environment that offers consumers diverse shopping experiences.
The transition from Arket to Lululemon reflects evolving consumer trends toward athleisure and performance wear, sectors where Lululemon has established global leadership. Birmingham shoppers can anticipate access to the brand's complete range of technical athletic apparel designed for yoga, running, training, and other sweat activities.
As preparations continue for the spring 2026 opening, retail observers will be watching closely for further announcements regarding launch events and specific opening dates. This move represents not just a new store opening, but a significant enhancement of Birmingham's retail diversity and appeal to both local shoppers and visitors to the city.
