Fast-food giant McDonald's has unleashed a wave of 1990s nostalgia across the UK with a brand new, limited-time Happy Meal collaboration. The launch, which began in early January 2026, sees two iconic cartoon franchises unite for a toy collection designed to delight both children and adults.
A Blast from the Past: The Toy Collection
The heart of the promotion is a set of 12 limited-edition figures that merge the worlds of Sanrio's Hello Kitty and Friends with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In a unique twist, the Hello Kitty characters have been styled in the signature outfits of the pizza-loving reptile heroes. A McDonald’s spokesperson described the launch as a "nostalgic, joy-filled collaboration that’s resonating with kids and grown-ups alike – and it’s only around for a limited time."
For those less interested in the figurines, the classic Happy Meal alternative remains available: The Power of Friendship story and activity book. Additionally, select McDonald's restaurants nationwide are offering specially themed activity pages to younger guests.
New Additions to the McDonald's Secret Menu
This retro toy launch coincides with the revelation of McDonald's latest 'Secret Menu', which debuted on January 5, 2026. The new offerings have already sparked considerable conversation among customers.
The headline item is the controversial Surf 'N' Turf burger. This substantial sandwich combines two 100% British beef patties with cheese, onions, pickles, mustard, and ketchup, and adds a crispy white Pollock fish filet patty, all served in a toasted bun.
Another new creation is the Chicken Cheeseburger, which pairs a British beef patty with cheese, onions, pickles, mustard, and ketchup, alongside a crispy coated chicken patty. The menu also welcomes back the popular Chicken Big Mac and the Big Arch.
Sweet Treats and Dipping Sauces
Beyond burgers, McDonald's has introduced several other items for a limited period. Fans can now enjoy Big Mac Sauce as a standalone condiment, perfect for dipping McNuggets or fries.
The dessert menu gets an upgrade with an Espresso Milkshake, featuring a thick vanilla milkshake served with a shot of espresso to mix in. There's also an Apple Pie Mini McFlurry, which swirls dairy ice cream with caramel sauce and includes pieces of apple pie.
