Supermarket giant Morrisons has confirmed the permanent closure of its long-running Christmas savings programme, marking the end of a 14-year initiative that helped families budget for their festive food shopping.
End of an Era for Christmas Planning
The Christmas Savers Stamp scheme, which operated through the Morrisons More Card system, allowed customers to purchase £1 stamps at checkout throughout the year. These stamps could then be accumulated and redeemed towards the substantial Christmas grocery shop that many households undertake during the festive period.
However, the supermarket has now officially terminated the programme, with no new stamps being issued after December 2025. Furthermore, any Christmas Savers vouchers that remained unredeemed by the December 31, 2025 deadline have now expired completely and hold no remaining value.
Official Statement and Strategic Shift
In their official announcement regarding the scheme's discontinuation, Morrisons stated: "After careful consideration, we'll be ending our Christmas Saver Stamp scheme from the 31st December 2025. This change allows us to focus more on improving your personalised offers and enhancing the overall More Card experience."
The retailer emphasised that the digital Christmas Savers scheme would not operate during 2026, reinforcing that all accumulated savings needed to be redeemed before the final deadline at the end of last year.
Broader Context and New Initiatives
This significant change to Morrisons' loyalty offerings coincides with the supermarket's expansion into new service areas. The company has recently launched Morrisons Travel, a travel booking service that enables customers to arrange holidays and trips through the supermarket's website and mobile application.
Jamie Winter, Morrisons' director of procurement, commented on this development: "We're excited to be able to offer our customers even more reasons to shop at Morrisons with the launch of our new travel booking service, powered by Expedia Group. Customers can now book everything from flights to hotels through Morrisons while being rewarded through our More Card, once their trip is complete."
The termination of the Christmas savings scheme represents a notable shift in Morrisons' customer engagement strategy, moving away from traditional savings stamps toward more contemporary digital rewards and expanded service offerings that extend beyond conventional grocery retail.
