Morrisons Slashes Christmas Veg to 5p Amid Rising Festive Costs
Morrisons launches 5p Christmas vegetable offer

Supermarket giant Morrisons has launched a dramatic price cut on essential Christmas vegetables, offering them for just 5p each in a move to help shoppers combat the rising cost of the festive food shop.

Festive Bargains on British Produce

The offer, which began on Thursday 18 December 2025, is available to customers with a Morrisons More Card. Shoppers can pick up British carrots (1kg), parsnips (500g), Brussels sprouts (500g), and whole swede for just 5p each. Furthermore, all customers, regardless of card membership, can bag a 1.5kg bag of Morrisons British Best Roasting Potatoes for a heavily reduced price of £1, which is better than half price. These deals are available in-store and will run until 26 December.

Supporting Farmers Amidst Inflation

Fraser Lovatt, Market Street Director at Morrisons, emphasised the supermarket's commitment to British agriculture. "We work directly with British farmers and growers all year round to bring our customers the freshest, highest-quality British produce," he said. "From sprouts to spuds, seasonal veg are at the heart of the Christmas dinner plate and we’re proud to help our customers enjoy them for less, while continuing to champion and support the British farmers who grow them."

This initiative comes against a backdrop of significant price increases on other Christmas items. A recent report from consumer champion Which? revealed that shoppers are paying up to 70% more for some festive treats compared to 2024. For example, at Morrisons, Lindt Milk Chocolate Teddy Christmas tree decorations have jumped from £3.50 to £6, a 71% increase.

The Wider Christmas Price Landscape

Reena Sewraz, Retail Editor at Which?, stated that "blanket inflation figures do not show the full picture of what shoppers face at the supermarket." The report attributed sharp rises on specific items to factors like bird flu and increased costs for farmers.

Other supermarkets are also running promotions. A Sainsbury's spokesperson highlighted their offer of classic vegetable trimmings for 15p each for Nectar card holders from 18 December through to Christmas Eve. The contrasting deals underscore the competitive efforts by major retailers to attract customers during the crucial final Christmas shopping week, while also highlighting the pressure on household budgets.
