Morrisons warns More Card holders over £30m in unclaimed 'Fivers'
Morrisons urges More Card customers to check accounts

Supermarket giant Morrisons has issued an urgent call to its loyalty scheme members, advising them to check their accounts immediately for unclaimed vouchers. The retailer revealed that close to £30 million worth of 'More Card Fiver' vouchers are currently sitting unused by customers across the UK.

How the More Card loyalty scheme works

Customers who hold a Morrisons More Card can collect points on a vast selection of purchases, including both own-label and branded products. These points can be earned in stores nationwide and through online orders.

The system converts points into vouchers: for every 5,000 More Points accumulated, shoppers receive a £5 voucher, commonly referred to as a 'More Card Fiver'. This voucher can then be used to reduce the cost of a future shop in any Morrisons store or via its online service.

The crucial expiry warning

A critical detail that customers must be aware of is the expiry policy. More Points expire 12 months after they are earned if they have not been converted into a voucher. Furthermore, the vouchers themselves have an expiry date.

As highlighted by Money Saving Expert, the consumer website founded by Martin Lewis, physical 'Fiver' vouchers expire after 12 months, while digital versions are only valid for three months. The site also notes that if a More Card is not used in-store or online for over a year, all accumulated points will be removed from the account.

A timely reminder for Christmas budgets

With the festive season approaching, Morrisons is keen to ensure customers don't miss out on potential savings. Gareth Lloyd, Director of Loyalty at Morrisons, stated: "With Christmas just around the corner, we know customers will be keeping an eye on their budgets. That’s why we’re reminding our More Card customers to check their More Card Fivers before starting their Christmas shopping this year."

He emphasised that these unclaimed vouchers could "make a real difference", whether by reducing the cost of the main Christmas shop or helping with the expense of everyday essentials in the lead-up to the holiday.

Shoppers can easily check their points balance and voucher status through the Morrisons app or website, or by looking at the bottom of their printed till receipt.

Morrisons operates in a highly competitive UK grocery market, facing rivalry from other major chains including Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's, Aldi, Lidl, and Marks & Spencer.
