New Convenience Store Opens on Link Street in Birmingham City Centre
A new convenience store has opened on Link Street in Birmingham, situated between the Bullring and Grand Central shopping centres. The shop, named Simply Local, has commenced operations in the unit that was previously used as a pop-up Netflix charity shop, directly opposite the Lane 7 bowling complex.
Filling the Gap Left by Former Bullring Newsagent
This opening comes approximately nine months after the closure of Newspoint, the original Bullring newsagent that had been in operation since the shopping centre's reopening in its current form in 2003. Last summer, Newspoint shut down suddenly after 22 years of business, shortly after it received a zero-star food hygiene rating.
Months prior to its permanent closure, the council had ordered the shop to close to customers after discovering that part of the premises posed an imminent risk of injury to health. At that time, council signage on the shop window indicated mouse activity as a concern. To date, no replacement tenant has been announced for the unit vacated by Newspoint.
Simply Local Expands Its Presence in Birmingham
Simply Local is not a newcomer to Birmingham's city centre retail scene; it already operates a branch on Stephenson Street. The opening of this new location on Link Street marks a significant expansion for the brand, providing increased convenience for shoppers in the area.
Other Retail Openings in Birmingham This April
Simply Local is not the only retailer to launch a new shop in Birmingham during April. Over the Easter weekend, the teenage fashion store Subdued opened on the ground floor of the Bullring. Additionally, on the bottom floor of the shopping centre, Trailberg has opened in the former Three store location on the Marks and Spencer side. Trailberg specializes in selling men's performance and activewear.
Looking ahead, LuluLemon, a retailer known for athletic clothing, is scheduled to open later this spring on the upper floor outside, taking over the space previously occupied by Arket. These openings highlight a dynamic period of retail activity in Birmingham, with new stores catering to diverse consumer needs and preferences.
