Sainsbury's Nectar Points Now Available on Uber Eats Grocery Orders
Sainsbury's Nectar Points on Uber Eats: New Update

Sainsbury's has expanded its Nectar loyalty programme to include grocery orders placed through the Uber Eats app and online platform. Shoppers can now collect one Nectar point for every £1 spent on Sainsbury's groceries ordered via Uber Eats, a move that applies to more than 1,300 Sainsbury's stores across the UK.

How the New Nectar Points System Works

Customers using Uber Eats to order Sainsbury's groceries will automatically earn Nectar points on their purchases. These points can be accumulated and later exchanged for a variety of rewards, including days out and meals at restaurants. The integration means that shoppers who previously only earned points on in-store purchases can now boost their balance from the comfort of their homes.

To start collecting points, customers need to add their Nectar card details within the Uber Eats app, select groceries from a participating Sainsbury's store, and complete their order as usual. The process is designed to be seamless, allowing shoppers to earn rewards without any extra steps beyond their regular ordering routine.

Redeeming Nectar Points for Uber Vouchers

Once points are collected, redemption is straightforward. Shoppers must open the Nectar app, navigate to its partners section, and exchange their balance for an Uber voucher. This voucher can then be applied to a future Uber journey or an Uber Eats order, providing flexibility in how customers use their rewards.

The expansion is part of an ongoing partnership between Sainsbury's and Uber, which already allowed Nectar members to convert points into Uber rides or Uber Eats treats. Now, the scheme has been extended to include the earning side, creating a full-circle loyalty experience.

Statements from Uber Eats and Sainsbury's Leaders

Katie Hunter, Uber Eats general manager for grocery and retail in the UK, expressed enthusiasm about the update. "We know how much Uber Eats customers love Nectar, so bringing points directly to their Sainsbury's orders was a no-brainer," she said. "Now, they can collect Nectar points on all their Sainsbury's essentials as well as spending them across the entire Uber app. It's all about delivering flexibility, convenience and value for customers right alongside their favourite groceries."

Mark Given, Sainsbury's chief technology, marketing and data officer, highlighted the benefits for Nectar members. "Nectar members can already turn their points into Uber rides or Uber Eats treats — and now they can collect points when ordering Sainsbury's groceries through Uber Eats too," he explained. "It's another way we're helping customers get more from Nectar, whether they're stocking up on essentials, planning dinner or making everyday life that little bit easier."

Impact on Sainsbury's and the Grocery Market

This move positions Sainsbury's to compete more aggressively in the online grocery delivery sector, where rivals like Tesco, Asda, and Morrisons also offer loyalty incentives. By integrating with Uber Eats, Sainsbury's taps into a large user base that values convenience and flexibility, potentially increasing order frequency and customer loyalty.

The change also reflects a broader trend in the grocery industry towards partnerships with delivery platforms to enhance customer experience. For Nectar members, the ability to earn and spend points across both Sainsbury's and Uber ecosystems adds tangible value, encouraging more frequent engagement with both brands.

As the scheme rolls out, customers are advised to ensure their Nectar card is linked to their Uber Eats account to take full advantage of the new earning opportunity. With over 1,300 stores participating, the majority of Sainsbury's customers across the UK should be able to benefit from this update.
