A furniture department store in Bilston is set to close its doors after 105 years of trading. Leekes, located on Great Bridge Road, will shut permanently on August 2.
History of the Store
Originally known as Cole's, the shop was founded by Bill Cole in 1921 as a Black Country furniture brand. In November 2009, the family business was sold to Welsh firm Leekes, a company that has been operating since the 1890s. Under Leekes, the store continued the tradition of selling garden furniture, kitchens, bathrooms, wardrobes, and more to the local community.
Closing Down Sale
The store will be closed on Wednesday, June 17, to prepare for the final closing down sale. The furniture floor will reopen on Thursday, June 18, from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, exclusively for previous customers and invited guests. The news comes just three months after Leekes Bilston launched a £1 million store refurbishment sale.
Statement from Leekes
In a statement to customers, Leekes expressed gratitude: "Thank you Bilston. It's time to say goodbye - and thank you. After 15 wonderful years serving our Bilston community, we have made the difficult decision to close this store on August 2. We want to thank every customer who has shopped with us - it has been an absolute pleasure."
The company assured customers that all existing orders will be fulfilled as planned, and their customer care team is available for any questions. Leekes emphasised that other stores remain open and customers can continue shopping online at leekes.co.uk.
For 130 years, Leekes has helped customers create beautiful homes, and they look forward to continuing to serve their clientele through other channels.
