Shae Spice and Jake Davis, both 20, from Manchester, have turned their side hustles into a full-time venture, generating £20,000 in a single month. The couple, who previously worked as a cleaner and a delivery driver respectively, have now quit their jobs to focus on their reselling business and an Airbnb property.
From Side Hustles to Full-Time Success
The couple's journey began when they met in college in September 2024. At the time, Shae ran her own cleaning business, while Jake worked as a delivery driver and pursued music. They decided to combine their entrepreneurial ambitions, living at Jake's parents' home while they developed a business plan.
After taking a £3,000 online course together, they launched The Unfiltered Store, a reselling business focused on vintage designer handbags. They invested an additional £1,500 to £2,000 in stock, but the business made no money for the first three months. However, it eventually took off, and they now earn between £10,000 and £15,000 per month from reselling alone.
Live Auctions Boost Revenue
In June 2025, the couple transitioned to selling through live auctions on platforms like WhatNot, eBay Live, and TikTok. This new approach proved lucrative, generating £20,000 in revenue in their first month. They buy items for £5 to £10 and sell them for £20 to £40, but vintage designer bags fetch much higher prices—£80 to £400 or more for brands like Gucci and Louis Vuitton.
Jake explained their live auction strategy: "Basically you hold up the item to show the audience and they can bid on that item. We'll just go live and whilst people are scrolling on TikTok and social media it will pop up, they can join our livestream if they like what we're selling."
Airbnb Side Hustle Adds Passive Income
In August 2025, the couple expanded into subletting a three-bedroom home in Manchester, with the landlord's permission. They pay £1,800 per month in rent and bills, earning about £2,000 profit monthly for just a few hours of work. Jake noted, "In December 2025 we were making an additional £4,000 profit off that singular unit via Airbnb. It's not like that throughout the year but we've never lost money on it."
The Airbnb property, which they charge £150 to £300 per night depending on the season, attracts a mix of clients, including tourists and builders. They even hosted someone for three months through insurance as emergency accommodation.
Investing in the Business
The couple initially invested £5,000 in their reselling venture, which Jake described as "a ballsy amount." They started by selling clothes on Vinted but quickly moved to live streaming auctions. They now sell 50 to 100 items per livestream, multiple times a week, earning up to £5,000 per stream.
To manage their growing inventory, they rented a self-storage shipping container for £250 per month, later upgrading to a space double the size for £500 per month in October 2025.
Future Goals and Financial Freedom
Shae and Jake have ambitious plans. They aim to reach a £20,000 monthly profit this month and eventually hit £100,000 in monthly revenue. Jake said, "The way we're going I can say the business will make £100,000 revenue in one month."
Their long-term vision includes retiring their parents early, achieving financial freedom, and traveling the world. "We want general financial freedom, we want to live abroad and travel the world – maybe have a few different houses in different countries and raise a family," Jake added. "We don't really go out, we don't really party, we're locking in right now to build for our future."
