The £123 million rail expansion plans aim to enhance connectivity from Moor Street station to Bordesley, but construction work could force many independent businesses to close.
Popular Venues at Risk
Popular venues including The Night Owl and Mama Roux fear they won't survive the proposed changes, with some earmarked for demolition in 2030. The Night Owl said it was 'immensely shocked and stressed' by the proposals, stating: "This expansion will be detrimental to the Digbeth we all know and love."
The plans involve adding two new railway track sections and widening the historic Bordesley Viaduct arches, which currently provide the backdrop to the area's thriving nightlife scene. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2030, with the improved railway opening in the early 2030s.
Consultation and Promises
