Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has revealed that he has not yet made a decision on whether the club will permanently sign Jadon Sancho or Douglas Luiz this summer. Both players are currently on loan at Villa Park, and their futures remain uncertain as the season draws to a close.
Sancho and Luiz Loan Situations
Jadon Sancho joined Aston Villa on loan in September for the remainder of the season. The winger is set to become a free agent this summer, leaving his long-term future open. Meanwhile, Douglas Luiz returned to Villa on a temporary deal from Juventus during the January transfer window, following an injury to Youri Tielemans. Villa hold an option to sign Luiz permanently for approximately £23 million, but the Brazilian has struggled for regular playing time since Tielemans regained full fitness. Recent reports suggest that Villa may be hesitant to trigger the clause, as Luiz has slipped down the pecking order under Emery's management.
Sancho's Future and Europa League Success
Sancho's future also remains uncertain despite his contributions to Villa's successful campaign, which included helping the team reach the Europa League final. Reports have linked him with a potential return to Borussia Dortmund once his contract situation is resolved.
Speaking ahead of Villa's final match of the season against Manchester City on Sunday, Emery was asked whether the club had decided to sign either player permanently. He responded, "Not yet. Now we are finishing the season. We will reflect and analyse each situation. We will decide it, but not yet."
Emery emphasized his pride in the squad's efforts, stating, "I am so, so proud of every player and how they have responded. Now is the moment after Sunday to take decisions how we will continue building and getting our development strongly."
The Villa boss reiterated his ambition for the club, saying, "We are ambitious and everything we did is important to how we can analyse how to get better next year. I only want to improve and get better next year. The decisions we take will be in this direction."
As the season ends, Emery and his staff will carefully evaluate the squad to determine which players will be part of Villa's future plans, with Sancho and Luiz among those under consideration.
