NatWest to Close 32 UK Branches in 2026 Including One Midlands Location
NatWest 2026 Branch Closures: 32 Sites Including Midlands

NatWest has announced the closure of 32 branches across the United Kingdom starting May 12, 2026, including one location in the Midlands. The closures will occur in phases throughout the year and into February 2027.

Bank Statement on Closures

In a message to customers, the bank stated: "Banking has changed dramatically in recent years. There's more demand for mobile and online services, allowing you to benefit from a faster and easier way to bank." The statement added: "We understand the closure of your local branch will bring some changes, and we want to make sure you are fully informed and supported every step of the way."

Criticism from Age UK

High street banks have faced sharp criticism for the wave of closures. Caroline Abrahams CBE, Age UK Charity Director, commented: "The continuing avalanche of bank branch closures means that there are considerably fewer opportunities for face-to-face banking than there were even just a couple of years ago." She noted that older people in rural and semi-rural areas are likely to be hardest hit, but those in towns and cities are not immune. Age UK's research found that over four million older people with bank accounts in Britain do not manage their money online, putting them at high risk of digital exclusion.

Banking Hubs Rollout

In response, the charity is calling for the protection of physical banking services and the accelerated rollout of shared banking hubs. Cash access body Link recently announced four new hubs, bringing the total recommended to 250. The 250th hub recommendation was in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, following Santander closures.
