The Rotary Club of the City of Wolverhampton has issued a rallying call to walkers and runners to take part in the 2026 Best Foot Forward event, which has raised over £234,000 for charities since its inception. Aldersley Stadium will once again host this popular fundraiser on the last Saturday of June.
How the Event Works
Hundreds of participants take to the track, with each lap unlocking funds donated by local companies and organisations. The event is supported by the Express & Star, Wolverhampton City Council, and the James Beattie Charitable Trust. Last year, record numbers turned out on a sunny day, with some completing just a few laps for fun while others ran several miles.
Record-Breaking 2025
Richard Horrell, head of the organising committee, said: “The 2025 event produced records on all fronts. Record participants, record laps covered, record overall amount raised and record funds for the nominated event charities.”
This year’s event charities are Wolverhampton Coronary Aftercare Support Group, Sponsored Breaks, and The Rotary Charitable Trust. Each is guaranteed a minimum of £3,000, potentially rising to £5,000 if 20,000 laps are completed.
Opportunities for Other Charities
Best Foot Forward also allows other groups to use the event as their own sponsored walk, retaining all funds they raise. Over the years, this has provided more than £95,000 to such groups. Individual sponsor forms are available on the website.
Chris Scordis, Treasurer of Wolverhampton Coronary Aftercare Support Group, said: “We are delighted to be invited again. This will be our 10th event, and the last Saturday in June has become a key date in our calendars. Our supporters love the atmosphere at Aldersley.”
New BFF Bonus Incentive
Mr Horrell added: “This year, there is a ‘BFF Bonus’ fund created by the Club with backing from the James Beattie Charitable Trust. Up to 12 charities can enter teams and boost their funds by up to £500, depending on laps completed.”
How to Get Involved
The event is made possible by Best Foot Forward Patrons—community-minded companies and organisations that contribute to the fund. Many have supported since 2013. Mr Horrell said: “We extend a warm invitation to other companies and organisations to join this event, which provides help directly where it is needed across our city.”
