An 87-year-old environmental campaigner from West Yorkshire has released a new short film aimed at encouraging greener communities. Thomas Black, a retired businessman and long-standing advocate for cleaner streets, has produced his fourth film featuring his granddaughter and pupils from a local school.
Intergenerational Collaboration for Change
Thomas believes that bringing generations together is the most effective way to inspire real change in neighbourhoods. His previous three anti-litter films have garnered over half a million views online, demonstrating the power of his message.
Using Modern Platforms
Despite his age, Thomas is a passionate campaigner who uses platforms like TikTok to reach a wider audience. He argues that littering harms wildlife, damages the countryside, and costs communities money to clean up. Education, he says, is the key to changing public attitudes toward waste.
“Litter isn’t just unsightly – it harms wildlife, damages our countryside, and ultimately costs communities money to clean up,” said Thomas. “Education and awareness are key to changing attitudes, and involving young people in this film shows that anyone, at any age, can make a difference.”
The retiree added with a smile that he does not necessarily see himself as a typical social media influencer. “I may be 87, not exactly a social media influencer! But if this one inspires just one person to make a change then that’s more than enough for me.”
Film Availability and Goals
The film is currently available on YouTube and via the ‘No One Likes A Tosser’ social media channels. The project aims to encourage families and schools to take greater pride in the beauty of their local environment. “My motivation is simple,” Thomas explained. “I may be 87, but I still care deeply about the world we’re leaving for future generations.”
