Abseil Down Anglesey Column for Hope House Hospice

Abseil Down Iconic Anglesey Landmark for Children's Hospice Charity

This May offers a unique opportunity to create lasting memories while making a significant difference for local children and families facing life-threatening conditions. Hope House Tŷ Gobaith children's hospices are organising a sponsored abseil event down the renowned 89-foot Marquess of Anglesey Column in Llanfairpwll, providing an exhilarating way to support their vital work.

Event Details and Participation Information

The abseil will take place on Saturday, May 9, from 9am to 5pm, at the Marquess Column in Llanfairpwll. Participants will descend backwards over the edge above the stunning Menai Strait, guided by professional abseil specialists from Go Vertical to ensure safety and support throughout the experience.

To join this thrilling fundraiser, individuals must pay a £30 entry fee and commit to raising at least £150 in sponsorship. In addition to the adrenaline rush, all entrants will receive a custom t-shirt and a light lunch, making it a rewarding day out for a noble cause.

Business Sponsorship Opportunities and Community Impact

Hope House Tŷ Gobaith is actively seeking local businesses to become supporting partners for this event, building on past successes like the partnership with Menai Heating in 2025. Jamie Jones from Menai Heating shared his insights on the importance of such collaborations, stating, "We would strongly encourage other organisations to consider partnering with Hope House Tŷ Gobaith. The difference they make to families facing the most challenging circumstances is profound and lasting."

He added, "Supporting as the main sponsor of last year’s event was a privilege for us at Menai Heating. After attending the open day and seeing first-hand the environment the team have created for children and their families, it truly reinforced why their work is so important. Seeing how donations directly contribute to creating a safe, comforting and uplifting space was both humbling and inspiring. It gave us a much deeper appreciation of the impact this charity has on our community."

Organiser's Invitation and Broader Experience

Nikki Sullivan, the event organiser, extended a warm invitation to potential participants, saying, "Spring will be in the air and so will you if you join us this May for our abseil. It’s such a wonderful location and atmosphere on the day – plus with allocated time slots you can plan a wider visit to Anglesey."

She emphasised the broader mission, noting, "Come join us and ensure we can continue on our mission to reach every child and family locally who are living with a life-threatening condition and give them access to respite, nursing, counselling and therapeutic play free of charge."

This event not only promises an unforgettable adventure but also plays a crucial role in funding essential services for vulnerable families, highlighting the power of community support in making a tangible difference.
