A dedicated nurse from Anglesey is pushing her limits with four demanding fitness challenges to raise crucial funds for North Wales' sole children's hospice. Jessica Roberts, a fully qualified children's nurse, was inspired during a training placement at Tŷ Gobaith in the Conwy Valley ten years ago, an experience that left a lasting impact on her.
Inspired by Firsthand Care
Jess shared her motivation, stating, "There are many brilliant charities out there, but I decided to raise money for Tŷ Gobaith as I have experienced the amazing care they provide firsthand. It is such a wonderful place for children and their families, with a homely feel and individualized quality care that ensures every child feels safe and cared for in the best possible way. I knew this was the charity for me—100 percent."
Challenges Ahead
Having already completed the hospice's Valentine challenge by walking 14 miles in 14 days during February, Jess is gearing up for three more events:
- A sponsored 10-mile walk along the Llangollen Canal
- The revered She Ultra race in Abersoch
- A Virtual London Marathon at the end of April
At 34, Jess is a wife and mother of two young children. She explained, "My aim for this year is to get fitter and complete these challenges to help others. They are quite close together, which is nerve-racking, but I've been getting out every day, rain or shine, to train. I have incredible support from my husband, family, and friends, who join me for walks and will support me during the Virtual London Marathon along Anglesey's beautiful coast."
Virtual Marathon Details
The Hope House Tŷ Gobaith Virtual London Marathon coincides with the main event on April 26, offering participants 24 hours to complete the distance and raise vital funds. Bekki Fardoe, a fundraiser for the hospice, praised Jess, saying, "Jess is an inspirational woman. She's been a dedicated children's nurse for over a decade and is pushing herself for the good of others in her community. We're proud of all our virtual marathon entrants; every mile and pound raised helps local children and families living with life-threatening conditions."
How to Get Involved
The virtual marathon is available for a reduced entry price of just £15, with a commitment to raise £250. Entrants receive a free technical t-shirt, a tracking app, and an official London Marathon finisher's medal. Jess remains positive, adding, "I'm super excited for all these incredible events. I have the mentality that this is all for an amazing cause, which will keep me going!"
