Ashbourne Welcomes New Air Ambulance Charity Shop to Support Lifesaving Missions
Set against the picturesque backdrop of rolling countryside and steeped in rich history, Ashbourne has become the latest community to host a Your Local Air Ambulance (YLAA) charity shop. This new establishment is dedicated to raising vital funds for the charity's lifesaving emergency medical service, which operates without government funding.
Grand Opening in the Heart of Ashbourne
The shop officially opened its doors on Friday, February 20, at the Shawcroft Centre on Dig Street in Ashbourne. This launch coincides with a period of renewed investment in the town, following the recent completion of the Ashbourne Reborn town centre transformation project. As Ashbourne enjoys enhanced public spaces and safer streets, the charity shop offers both residents and visitors a fresh avenue to support YLAA's critical work across the county.
Critical Role in Emergency Response
Last year alone, Your Local Air Ambulance responded to 548 incidents in Derbyshire, providing advanced critical care to individuals in emergencies where every second counted. The charity relies entirely on generous donations and its network of charity shops to maintain its helicopters in the sky and critical care cars on the road. Simon Trzopek, Retail Area Manager, expressed enthusiasm about the new addition: "We're thrilled to be opening a brand-new charity shop in the heart of Ashbourne and joining the local community. Whether you're donating items, hunting for a bargain, or stopping by for a chat about volunteering with us, every visit helps fund the vital work of our crews."
Expanding Lifesaving Services Across the Region
Your Local Air Ambulance's specialist clinicians deliver advanced medical care directly at incident scenes, covering Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Rutland, Northamptonshire, and Warwickshire. This service plays a pivotal role in addressing some of the region's most severe emergencies. The Air Ambulance Service, which includes YLAA and the National Children’s Air Ambulance, has also launched the 'Big Bases Appeal' to secure funding for the future of its lifesaving operations.
This new shop in Ashbourne not only supports local community engagement but also contributes to a broader mission of saving lives through timely medical interventions.
