Community Spirit and Emotional Tributes
Staff and volunteers from Saint Francis Hospice, which is part of the event's organising consortium, enthusiastically lined the course to cheer on all participants. Many runners took part in memory of loved ones, adding a deeply personal and emotional dimension to the fundraising efforts. Fundraising events manager Charlotte Winder praised the event as a great success, attributing its achievements to the unwavering dedication of the runners, the hard work of volunteers, and the remarkable generosity of the local community.
Participants enjoyed ideal weather conditions as they navigated the scenic Essex countryside, enhancing the overall experience of the half marathon. The supportive atmosphere and beautiful surroundings contributed to a memorable day for everyone involved.
Personal Stories of Remembrance and Support
Long-time supporter Ben completed the course dressed as Frankie the Lion, the beloved hospice mascot, in memory of his father who received care from Saint Francis Hospice back in 1997. This heartfelt tribute captured the spirit of the event, blending fundraising with personal remembrance.
First-time participants Peter Salter and his daughter Abbie ran in memory of Peter's wife Lisa, reflecting on the invaluable support their family received from the hospice during difficult times. Peter shared that training together provided precious time to remember Lisa and share cherished memories, while the fantastic atmosphere on race day made the experience even more meaningful.
