Burlesque Troupe Raises Over £11,000 for Domestic Abuse Charity in Rotherham

South Yorkshire's premier burlesque troupe, TDF Burlesque Group, has raised an impressive £11,308 for Hopian, a charity dedicated to supporting victims of domestic abuse and child sex exploitation in Rotherham. The group selected Hopian as their charity of the year for 2025, and the funds were announced at a recent charity showcase event.

A Year of Support Culminates in Sold-Out Performance

The final performance, held at Maltby Progressive Club, was a sold-out event that featured over 50 performers who generously donated their time and talent. This evening marked the conclusion of a year-long effort to raise both funds and awareness for Hopian's critical work in the community.

The showcase skillfully blended the art of burlesque with a powerful message focused on empowerment, body positivity, and supporting those affected by domestic abuse. This unique combination highlighted how performance art can serve as a platform for positive social change.

Aligning Values for Community Impact

Keren Firth, also known by her stage name Tormenta De Fuego and founder of TDF Burlesque, expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership. "We're thrilled to support such an important cause in our community," she said. "Burlesque is fundamentally about empowerment, self-expression, and reclaiming your own narrative - values that align perfectly with the work that Hopian does every day."

Sue Wynne, CEO of Hopian, emphasized the significance of the donation as the charity prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary in Rotherham in 2026. "As we start 2026, which will see Hopian mark 50 years as a charity in Rotherham, this significant donation is such a boost for our services," she stated. "To have enjoyed the yearlong support from the Burlesque group also means vital increased awareness for the charity so that anyone needing our services here in Rotherham knows where to find us."

Commitment to Social Change Through Performance

TDF Burlesque has been an active part of the Rotherham community since 2018, offering classes and performances. This fundraising event marks their eighth consecutive year of organizing such initiatives for various local charities, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to leveraging performance art for community benefit.

The group's efforts not only provide financial support but also help shine a light on important social issues, ensuring that resources like Hopian are accessible to those in need across South Yorkshire.
