New video footage has emerged showing the moment a Birmingham wedding at the Royal Shalimar banqueting hall in Sparkbrook was targeted in a petrol bomb attack on Wednesday night, August 19. Two supercars, believed to be a Lamborghini and a McLaren, were set alight during the incident on Highgate Road.
Attack on wedding guests and luxury cars
According to BirminghamLive, three masked individuals launched petrol bombs at terrified partygoers and luxury vehicles outside the venue. Young people, including a toddler, were among those in attendance when the attack occurred shortly after 8.30pm. Video footage shows wedding guests chasing the three men, who fled down Mole Street before getting into a white Volkswagen Golf and driving off.
Fire engines arrived at the scene, and West Midlands Fire Service confirmed there were no reported injuries. Fire crews from Highgate station attended and made one vehicle safe. The service left the incident at 9.07pm.
Police investigation launched
In a statement, West Midlands Police said: "An investigation has been launched after two cars were set on fire in Sparkbrook last night. At around 8.30pm, we were called to Royal Shalimar on Highgate Road. Three men were spotted running down Mole Street before getting into a white Volkswagen Golf and driving off. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. We have been speaking to witnesses and reviewing CCTV as part of our investigation."
A spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service told BirminghamLive: "Shortly after 8.30pm on Wednesday, August 19, we responded to Highgate Road, Birmingham. A fire engine from Highgate station attended, after two vehicles were deliberately set alight. One vehicle was made safe by firefighters. No one was trapped or injured. Police colleagues were also in attendance. We left this incident at 9.07pm."
