Celebrities to Face Local Team in Charity Football Match
A group of well-known faces from television, music, and motorsport will travel to Machynlleth in Powys this month to challenge local footballers in a special charity sports match. The event aims to raise vital funds for the National Eisteddfod, a major Welsh cultural festival set to visit the region in 2027.
Evening of Fun and Competition
The stars will go head-to-head with members of Machynlleth Football Club in what promises to be a fun but competitive evening. Organised by a dedicated local appeal committee, the match is part of ongoing efforts to support the Eisteddfod. Spectators can look forward to an exciting game followed by a special auction featuring exclusive sporting merchandise, including signed footballs and official shirts from the Welsh men's and women's national squads.
Organiser Expresses Gratitude
Mererid Wigley, coordinator of the appeal fund, expressed excitement about the event. "Machynlleth is very excited to welcome a team of stars to the town, all of whom have a connection to Maldwyn or Meirionnydd. We are very grateful to them for agreeing to take part and look forward to seeing them star on a different stage than usual, namely on the football pitch," she said.
Wigley added: "We have singers and actors, antiques experts, rally drivers and presenters! The players will be revealed gradually on social media, so keep an eye on Facebook for more details over the coming weeks."
Family-Friendly Event with Discounts
"Whether you are a football fan or not, this will be a fun night for the whole family. So, come along to Machynlleth to support both teams and be part of the excitement of preparing for an Eisteddfod to remember in 2027," Wigley encouraged.
Tickets can be purchased in advance from local shops or at the gate on the night. Early buyers can claim a special discount on food orders at a popular fish and chip shop in the town.
Match Details
The match takes place on Wednesday, July 29, at Machynlleth Football Club. Ticket prices are £7 for adults, £3 for children, or £18 for a family ticket.
