Phyllis Tuckwell Charity Seeks Fearless Fundraisers for 2026 Abseil & Skydive
Charity Abseil & Skydive Days for Palliative Care Funding

A Surrey-based hospice charity is calling on adventurous locals to take the plunge for a vital cause. Phyllis Tuckwell has announced a series of high-adrenaline fundraising events for 2026, including an abseil down a famous tower and tandem skydives, to support its palliative and end-of-life care services.

Take on the Spinnaker Tower Abseil Challenge

The first major event is a sponsored abseil at the iconic Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth. It is scheduled for Sunday, 19 April 2026. Participants will be kitted out with full safety gear before a high-speed lift, travelling at 4 metres per second, whisks them to the viewing platform.

From a breathtaking height of 100 metres above sea level, fundraisers will be securely attached to a safety line. After taking in panoramic views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight, they will descend the tower's side to the cheers of supporters below.

Experience the Ultimate Thrill with a Tandem Skydive

For those seeking an even greater thrill, the charity is also organising tandem skydives. These will take place at the UK's largest skydiving drop zone in Netheravon, Wiltshire. The confirmed dates are Saturday, 28 March 2026 and Sunday, 7 June 2026, with a third date in September to be announced.

In the safe hands of the Army Parachute Association, participants will receive full training before boarding the aircraft. The climb reaches 12,000 feet, followed by a freefall at speeds over 120 mph before the parachute opens for a gentle descent.

Funding Care for Over 250 Local People Daily

Fiona Chapman, Event Fundraiser at Phyllis Tuckwell, explained the critical need for these events. "Our abseil and skydive days are a great way to take on a new challenge and raise money to help people who really need our care," she said.

"Every day we provide medical and nursing care, therapies, counselling, and practical support to more than 250 patients, relatives and carers." She highlighted a significant funding gap, noting that only around 25% of their costs are covered by the NHS and Government.

This means the charity must raise over £25,000 every single day to continue its essential services. Sponsored challenges are therefore a crucial part of their fundraising strategy.

Registration for the Spinnaker Tower abseil costs £30 per person, with a minimum sponsorship pledge of £250. For the skydive, registration is £50 with a minimum sponsorship of £450.

Phyllis Tuckwell serves communities across Farnham, Guildford, and Camberley. For those less keen on heights, the charity promises a variety of other fundraising events throughout the year.
