As the new year begins, Moya Cole Hospice has unveiled an inspiring roster of fundraising challenges for 2026, offering residents across Greater Manchester the perfect opportunity to fulfil New Year's resolutions while supporting a vital local cause.
The hospice, which provides holistic care for patients with life-limiting illnesses, is inviting individuals of all fitness levels to take part in a diverse range of events. From local runs to overseas treks, each challenge aims to raise crucial funds for its services in Heald Green, Stockport, and Little Hulton, Salford.
A Year of Physical Fundraising Challenges
The charity's event calendar kicks off in February with a flexible 100km challenge. Participants can choose to walk, run, swim, or cycle the distance at their own pace throughout the month.
Spring brings two major marathon opportunities. On Sunday, 19 April, fundraisers can join the hospice team for the Manchester Marathon, renowned for its flat and friendly route. A week later, on Sunday, 26 April, a limited number of coveted places are available for the iconic London Marathon. The hospice is urging interested runners to register their interest promptly for this 26.2-mile challenge.
May features two standout events. The Tour de Manc cycling event returns to Manchester's streets, offering four different distances to cater for beginners and experienced cyclists alike. Later in the month, on Sunday, 31 May, the Great Manchester Run celebrates its 23rd year. Participants can opt for the epic 10km or half marathon distances to show their support.
National Peaks and International Adventures
For those seeking a tougher test, June presents the National Three Peaks Challenge. This involves conquering the UK's highest peaks: Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon.
The adventure continues from September to November with two phenomenal overseas treks. Supporters can choose to tackle either the Spanish Three Peaks or the world-famous Inca Trail, all in aid of the hospice.
The event calendar rounds off in October with the Manchester Half Marathon on Sunday, 4 October. This event is the largest half marathon in the North West.
Supporting Vital Local Hospice Care
Funds raised through these challenges are critical for Moya Cole Hospice's wide-ranging services. The charity provides inpatient care, day therapy, and outpatient services from its sites. Its teams also deliver extensive community support, including a Hospice at Home service in Salford and Trafford, a specialist palliative care team in Salford, and a dedicated palliative care service for Manchester's homeless population.
A 24-hour telephone advice line is also available for patients, carers, and healthcare professionals across Salford, Manchester, Trafford, and Stockport.
Laura Hindley and Moya Cole Hospice events fundraiser encourage everyone to consider taking part. "Scroll through our list of challenges for the upcoming year," they said, "and who knows, maybe you will be helping Moya Cole Hospice make a difference simply by taking part."
