Sunshine Fund Launches 2026 Charity Events Diary for North East
Charity's 2026 Events Diary: Golf, Treks & Runs

The Sunshine Fund has kicked off the new year by launching its full calendar of fundraising events for 2026. The local charity is inviting individuals and businesses across the North East to get involved in a diverse programme designed to support babies, children, and young people with disabilities.

A Year-Round Calendar of Fundraising Challenges

The charity's 2026 diary offers something for everyone, from fitness-focused challenges to unique social experiences. All events can be booked directly via the charity's website at www.thesunshinefund.org/get-involved.

The action begins on Thursday, January 29, with a Crazy Golf Day at the Junkyard Golf Club in Newcastle, supported by Sage. This event offers a fresh twist on traditional corporate charity golf days, with three time-slots available throughout the day. Teams of up to six can play 18 holes across two chaotic courses, with a non-alcoholic drink included per player.

The first slot is a 'Morning Mixer', open to individuals who will be randomly assigned to teams for a chaotic networking event. This includes complimentary tea and coffee donated by the Maldron Hotel. All participants gain entry to the after-putt party, 'The 19th Hole', at Bar52 for celebrations and awards. Teams can book via Eventbrite at https://bit.ly/3L74Lbc or email hello@thesunshinefund.org for an invoice.

From Scenic Treks to Iconic Runs

For those seeking an active challenge, the Kielder Trek on Friday, May 1, presents a 26-mile circular walking route through picturesque landscapes. Led by the charity's knowledgeable Head of Charity, the trek costs £39 to enter, with participants asked to raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship.

Runners can mark Wednesday, June 17, for the 23rd annual Sunshine Run 5K along Newcastle's Quayside. Entry is £27 (or £25 for affiliate runners) and includes a t-shirt and medal, with all proceeds going directly to the cause. The charity aims to reach a capacity of 500 participants this year. Bookings can be made at https://bit.ly/sunshine-run.

For a major running goal, the charity has places in the Great North Run on Sunday, September 13. Securing a place with Team Sunshine costs £50, with a minimum fundraising target of £300. Runners receive a t-shirt, goodie bag, and access to the charity's marquee.

Spooky Nights and Sporting Quizzes

As autumn arrives, a Chillingham Castle Scarefest is scheduled for Sunday, October 25. For £65, participants can explore the UK's most haunted castle on a tour led by resident historian and ghost hunter Richard.

The year's formal event is the annual black-tie Question of Sport quiz and dinner on Thursday, November 19. Tables can be reserved by emailing hello@thesunshinefund.org.

The Sunshine Fund also continues to welcome DIY fundraising, Charity of the Year partnerships, and ad-hoc donations throughout 2026. All funds raised stay in the North East, making a direct impact on the lives of local disabled children and their families.
