Derby Woman's Brave Shave Honors Husband, Supports Hospice

Sally Goodwin, a resident of Derby in Derbyshire, is preparing to undertake a courageous 'Brave the Shave' challenge later this year. This heartfelt initiative aims to raise vital funds for Treetops Hospice, an organization that provided essential support to her family during a difficult time. In addition to her fundraising efforts, Sally will generously donate her shaved hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity dedicated to creating wigs for children and young people who experience hair loss due to medical conditions.

A Personal Tribute with Deep Significance

Sally has chosen June 27 for her head shave, a date rich with personal meaning. She explained, "This date is particularly significant to me. Last year, on June 24, my husband Dave passed away from bladder cancer—which would have been his mum’s 100th birthday. Treetops Hospice supported Dave and me at home in his final days, helping to ensure his last wish to pass peacefully at home was fulfilled."

"I have selected June 27 for my shave to symbolically bridge these dates," Sally continued. "Also, a week later, on July 1, would have been my Mum and Dad’s 65th wedding anniversary. This challenge serves as both a personal tribute and a fundraiser to support Treetops and the families they care for."

Fundraising Goals and Community Impact

Sally has set an initial fundraising target of £500, with hopes to exceed this amount through community generosity. She has already made significant progress, raising £205 toward her goal. "Even small donations make a profound difference to Treetops and the families they support," she emphasized, highlighting how every contribution aids the hospice's compassionate care services.

This dual-purpose endeavor not only honors her late husband's memory but also extends support to children facing hair loss, showcasing a powerful act of community solidarity and personal resilience.
