Major Funding Boost for Denbighshire's Voluntary Sector
The voluntary sector in Denbighshire has received a substantial financial injection of more than £870,000 through the DVSC Key Fund, directly supporting 51 local organisations. This significant investment has enabled these groups to expand their services, adapt to community needs, and reach a broader audience across the county.
High Demand and Substantial Awards
The funding programme proved to be one of the most sought-after initiatives delivered by DVSC, attracting an impressive 99 applications from various parts of Denbighshire. In the past year alone, a total of £871,620 was distributed to successful applicants. This included £212,114 allocated as capital funding for essential infrastructure such as buildings, equipment, and long-term assets, alongside £659,506 in revenue funding to sustain ongoing operations or facilitate service expansion.
Among the supported projects, six focused on capital improvements while 45 were dedicated to enhancing day-to-day service delivery. The substantial financial backing underscores the critical role of the voluntary sector in addressing local needs and fostering community resilience.
Celebrating Impact at Key Fund Event
The positive outcomes of this investment were highlighted at the Key Fund Celebration Event, held at St Peter’s Church in Ruthin. The gathering brought together funded organisations, volunteers, and partners to share success stories and demonstrate the tangible benefits of the funding.
Attendees heard firsthand testimonials from grant recipients who detailed how the support has allowed them to provide more comprehensive assistance, engage new beneficiaries, and strengthen local networks. The event also featured the premiere of DVSC's new Key Fund films, which visually showcased the real-world impact of the investments, followed by an engaging Q&A session with funded organisations.
Leadership Perspectives on Sector Support
Janine Downing, Chief Officer of DVSC, expressed her inspiration at witnessing the collective achievements, stating: "It is always inspiring to bring organisations and people together and celebrate the real-life impact the funding we have administered has had across Denbighshire." She emphasized that while the voluntary sector offers exciting opportunities to support communities, it is crucial that these organisations themselves receive adequate support to remain resilient and sustainable, enabling them to deliver lasting impact.
DVSC chair Chris Ruane added: "The success of the Key Fund highlights both the demand for support and the incredible impact the voluntary sector delivers every day. By investing in these organisations, we are investing in the future wellbeing and resilience of communities across Denbighshire."
Enriching the Event Experience
The celebration was hosted by television presenter and podcaster Gareth 'Gaz Top' Jones, with catering provided by guest chef Marc Macauley. A notable addition to the programme was guest speaker Rob Dalton, a North Wales-based artist and founder of Daltonwood, who discussed creativity as a practical tool for improving wellbeing and helping individuals reconnect with themselves, others, and their environment.

DVSC extended gratitude to all involved in the Key Fund programme and event, including funded organisations, partners, and supporters. Local funding distribution remains a cornerstone of DVSC's work, aimed at helping organisations build resilience, sustain essential services, and respond to increasing demand throughout Denbighshire.
Since its inception in September 2023, the Key Fund has awarded a cumulative total of £2,272,146 to 132 organisations, demonstrating a sustained commitment to bolstering the voluntary sector's capacity to serve the community effectively.
