Ellie Goulding has been awarded an MBE by Prince William at Windsor Castle, recognising her contributions to music and charitable work, particularly her environmental activism.
A Royal Recognition
The singer, known for hits such as 'Love Me Like You Do' and 'Burn', received the honour during an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle on Wednesday. Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, presented the award. Goulding was recognised for her services to music and charity, including her role as a UN Environment Ambassador and her work with organisations such as UNICEF and the World Wildlife Fund.
Environmental Advocacy
Goulding has been a vocal advocate for climate action and sustainability. She has used her platform to raise awareness about environmental issues, including campaigning against plastic pollution and promoting renewable energy. In 2020, she launched a campaign to encourage people to plant trees, and she has also supported initiatives to protect oceans and wildlife.
The singer expressed her gratitude on social media, saying she was 'incredibly humbled' to receive the honour and dedicated it to all those working to protect the planet. She also thanked her family, friends, and fans for their support.
A Busy Year Ahead
Goulding is currently working on new music and preparing for a series of live performances. She is also continuing her environmental activism, with plans to launch a new sustainability-focused project later this year. The MBE adds to her growing list of accolades, which includes multiple Brit Awards and a Grammy nomination.
The investiture ceremony was conducted with strict COVID-19 safety measures in place, including social distancing and the use of face coverings. Prince William, who has himself been involved in environmental causes through his Earthshot Prize initiative, presented the award in the castle's Grand Reception Room.
