Fifteen family members and friends took part in the Great Manchester Run to honour the memory of a beloved mother, raising nearly £5,000 for Moya Cole Hospice in the process.
A Tribute to Mum
Richard Roylance, a supporter of the hospice, explained that his mother was cared for by Moya Cole Hospice at the end of last year before she died in January. Her illness came as a huge shock to the family, lasting only a couple of months after diagnosis. She spent her final weeks at the Heald Green hospice.
“She got the best care,” Richard said. “We as a family have so far raised almost £5,000 for the hospice. It’s our way of giving something back to the place that looked after her.”
Non-Runners United for a Cause
Most of the participants were not regular runners. While some try to exercise occasionally, the event was a way to challenge themselves and remember their mum. “The support at the run was brilliant; we had lots of people calling our name, and it was great to be able to do it for a wonderful cause,” Richard added.
