Family's Grief for Son Turned into £12,000 Fundraising

Gemma Whittle, 39, and Mitch Gaskin, 36, from Hinckley, have transformed the tragic loss of their two-year-old son Reggie into a powerful fundraising campaign. Reggie died in November 2023 following complications after what was expected to be a routine hip operation. Since then, the couple have raised more than £12,000 for The Bodie Hodges Foundation, a charity that supports bereaved families, through their Reggie's Forever Loved Fund.

Fundraising for Sibling Support

Reggie's Forever Loved Fund is a dedicated fund within the charity that specifically supports children who have lost a brother or sister. The fund provides emotional and practical support to families during their most difficult times. Gemma said: "Reggie was such a special little boy, full of joy, kindness and love. We wanted to make sure his name lives on in a way that brings comfort to others."

New Arrival Deepens Meaning

The cause became even more meaningful with the arrival of Reggie's younger brother, Ralphie, born in May. Gemma added: "Having Ralphie here with us is incredibly bittersweet. He will always know about his big brother and the difference he continues to make."

Wolf Run Challenge

Mitch, joined by friends and family, recently completed a Wolf Run challenge at Stanford Hall in Leicestershire. The physically demanding course involved mud, water, and obstacles across rough terrain, raising further funds for Reggie's Forever Loved Fund.

Children's Book Honouring Reggie

Gemma has also written and illustrated a children's book inspired by Reggie, titled 'The Boy with the Magic Smile'. Based on a true story, it follows a special young boy who visits Earth to help his animal friends navigate a world filled with hope. The book carries a message about finding light in dark moments, with 10 per cent of all profits donated to Reggie's fund. Gemma said: "The book is about looking for the glimmers in life, the small moments of hope and beauty, even when things feel incredibly hard. That's what Reggie gave us, and what he continues to give."
