Father Takes on Peak District Challenge After Heart Transplant

A devoted father from Mow Cop is preparing to take on a major Peak District challenge just months after a life-saving heart transplant.

Incredible Journey

Ellis Dawson will tackle a gruelling 73km route alongside his wife Charlotte to raise vital funds for the British Heart Foundation. The inspiring couple will take part in the Peak District Ultra Challenge on July 4, 2026.

They are already close to reaching their £1,500 fundraising target but hope to go even further.

The challenge comes after Ellis suffered a sudden heart attack in January 2025 while playing football. His condition worsened rapidly over the following months, and he was placed on the urgent transplant list in January 2026.

The local father received his new heart at Wythenshawe Hospital on February 1. He has made remarkable progress in his recovery and is taking on the walking event as a powerful milestone.

Family's Gratitude

Charlotte said: “My husband Ellis underwent a heart transplant on 1st February 2026 – something we never imagined our family would face.”

“Every step of this challenge is for Ellis, and for the incredible donor and their family who gave him the greatest gift imaginable.”

The couple share two young daughters and say there are 'no words big enough' to describe what the transplant means to them.

Ellis added: “Because of organ donation, because of research, because of the dedication of incredible cardiac teams, I am still here.”

“I am still a husband. Still a dad. Still part of the everyday chaos and joy.”

Determined to rebuild his strength, he is even planning to compete in the Transplant Games later this summer.

Raising Awareness

The couple hope to raise awareness that heart attacks can affect seemingly healthy young people.

The Peak District Ultra Challenge takes place across July 4-5, with people tackling distances of up to 100km.
