Fishing Competition Generates £1,200 for Children's Wish Fund in Pontardulais

A 48-hour fishing competition and raffle held at White Springs Fishery in Pontardulais has successfully raised £1,200 for the Wish Fund. This campaign, delivered by Hywel Dda Health Charities, focuses on creating lasting memories for children and young people with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions, as well as their families.

Event Organised by Grateful Family

The event took place in October 2025 and was organised by the Hill family, who own White Springs Fishery. Their motivation stems from personal experience: their son, Jaden Hill, has received support from children's services for many years after being diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. To express gratitude for the care Jaden has received, the family arranged the competition, raffle, and sponsorship collection.

Proceeds were split equally, with half donated to the Wish Fund and half to a cystic fibrosis charity. The Hill family are long-standing supporters of Hywel Dda children's services, having now donated more than £10,000 through various fundraising events over the years.

Community Support Praised by Fundraising Officer

Katie Hancock, a fundraising officer for Hywel Dda Health Charities, commented on the donation. She said: "Thank you to Bethan, Jaden and everyone at White Springs Fishery for your fantastic donation to the Wish Fund. We are so grateful for your continued support. Your generosity over the years has made a real difference to our services, and we truly appreciate it."

She added: "The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda, and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive."

Impact of Fundraising Efforts

This event highlights the powerful role of community-driven initiatives in supporting vital health services. The Wish Fund relies on such contributions to enhance the quality of life for vulnerable children and their families, offering experiences and support beyond standard NHS provisions.

The success of the fishing competition underscores the ongoing commitment of local residents and businesses to charitable causes, fostering a spirit of generosity and solidarity in the region.
