Greasby Primary School Fills Shoeboxes for Merseyside's Homeless This Christmas
Greasby school's festive shoebox appeal for homeless

For the second consecutive year, the entire community of Our Lady of Pity RC Primary School in Greasby has united in a heart-warming act of festive generosity. Pupils, staff, and families have gathered essential donations for the Shoebox Full of Love Christmas homeless appeal, a vital initiative run by a Merseyside-based charity.

A Community Effort for Those in Need

The school, which forms part of the Holy Family Catholic Multi Academy Trust, opened its doors to contributions from both its families and the wider local community. The drive focused on collecting items that would offer comfort and practical support to the region's most vulnerable individuals during the holiday season.

Donated goods included a wide array of essentials and treats, from clothes, baby products, and toiletries to toys, snacks, games, and even dog food. These contributions are designed to bring a glimmer of Christmas joy to men, women, children, and their pets who might otherwise face the festive period without.

Pupils Put Faith into Action

Eager to help, the children have been busy packing the donated items into shoeboxes and Christmas gift bags. These parcels are now destined for the charity's designated drop-off points across the Wirral, ready for distribution.

Year 4 pupil Daphne explained the motivation behind the project, saying, "We felt inspired to help others during our Catholic Social Teaching. We want everyone to have a nice Christmas, and we want to make people smile too."

Headteacher Mrs Kathryn Dunne expressed immense pride in her school community. "We are incredibly proud of the generosity shown by our pupils, families and staff," she said. "Supporting Shoebox Full of Love is a meaningful way for our school community to put our faith into action, spreading kindness, compassion and hope during the festive season."

Trust-Wide Values in Practice

The charity will distribute the filled boxes to shelters, outreach groups, and struggling families throughout Merseyside in the crucial lead-up to Christmas Day.

Mr Andy Moor, CEO of the Holy Family Catholic Multi Academy Trust, commended the school's efforts. "Well done to Our Lady of Pity RC Primary School for its fantastic support of this year’s Shoebox Full of Love appeal," he stated. "This is a wonderful example of our school community living out the values of our Trust. The pupils have shown trust, respect, innovation and courage in supporting others, and it’s inspiring to see the way they’ve come together for this initiative."
