East Cheshire Hospice Beds Now Helping War Victims in Ukraine
Hospice Beds Aid Ukraine War Victims

Fifteen specialist beds once used by East Cheshire Hospice patients are now providing emergency care in Ukrainian hospitals under attack from Russian forces. The equipment was delivered by Macclesfield-based humanitarian groups One Project Ukraine and Macclesfield Ukrainian Aid.

Beds Reach Hospitals in War Zones

Ten beds are now in a newly built ward for injured soldiers in the city of Dnipro. Four beds were allocated to a coronary ward in Kharkiv, while the other is in a hospital ward in Chernihiv. The beds were outdated and surplus to the hospice’s requirements after new beds were bought for its inpatient unit through a fundraising appeal.

Gratitude from Aid Groups

Jeanette Rice, co-founder of One Project Ukraine, said: “Everyone at One Project Ukraine and Macclesfield Ukrainian Aid would like to thank the hospice for its incredibly generous donation. These beds have made a huge difference to hospitals in Ukraine, providing much-needed comfort, care, and dignity to patients during extremely challenging times.” She added: “The adjustable features help medical staff deliver care more effectively and reduce the physical strain of caring for patients. In hospitals working under immense pressure due to the war, equipment such as this is invaluable.”

Collaboration and Impact

One Project Ukraine was co-founded by Craig and Jeanette Rice. Macclesfield Ukrainian Aid is led by John and Ann Hancock. The two groups work closely, sharing humanitarian goals. Jeanette noted: “The donation highlights how local organisations, charities, businesses and volunteers can work together to make a real difference internationally. Equipment that may no longer be needed in the UK can still have a transformative impact in Ukraine.”

Ongoing Support

One Project Ukraine also supports Ukrainians in Macclesfield and has organised children’s shoebox appeals for the last four years. It is currently running a raffle on its Facebook page. A team of volunteers helped with loading, unloading, and transportation of the beds.
