While many families across Greater Manchester are opening presents and sharing festive meals, dedicated healthcare professionals like Kathryn Edwards will be providing essential care and comfort at Moya Cole Hospice.
The Privilege of Christmas Day Care
Kathryn Edwards, a Health Care Assistant at Moya Cole Hospice, describes working on December 25th as both a privilege and an honour. She will be spending her Christmas Day supporting patients and their loved ones during what can be an emotionally challenging time.
Moya Cole Hospice provides holistic care to patients with life-limiting illnesses across its sites in Heald Green, Stockport and Little Hulton, Salford. Their services include inpatient care, day therapy, and supportive outpatient services.
Making Christmas Special for Patients
The hospice team begins Christmas Day early, helping patients prepare to spend precious moments with their families. Staff go above and beyond to create a festive atmosphere filled with love, comfort, and cherished moments.
"We do everything we can to make Christmas special," explains Edwards. "For many patients, this may be their final Christmas together with loved ones."
The hospice also ensures staff feel appreciated during their holiday shift with small gifts and festive treats to share during breaks.
Supporting the Give the Gift of Care Appeal
The hospice relies on community support to continue its vital work. Edwards is encouraging people to contribute to their Give the Gift of Care Christmas appeal.
Donations help ensure every patient receives the same warmth, dignity, and compassion people would want for their own family members. The hospice's services extend beyond its walls through community outreach programs.
The hospice operates a 24-hour telephone advice line available to patients, carers, and healthcare professionals across Salford, Manchester, Trafford, and Stockport.
Those wishing to support the appeal can visit www.moyacole.org.uk/christmas to make a donation that will directly impact patient care during the festive season and beyond.
